![]() ![]() The price of the TAPCO Link USB is very low and affordable. The TAPCO USB has two microphone pre amps and each pre amp has phantom power for your don censer microphones. This is the ultimate mobile studio interface. Just don't expect much more than that. The TAPCO Link USB is a two channel audio interface with low latency monitoring with the ability to power itself using the USB port. So what's my verdict? This (very well built!) interface is good for what it is: a USB 2x2 for cheap ($100 or less). ![]() The reason I say "possible" complaint is I'm not certain if the b is to blame from what I've read there are lots of possible sources of hum. One possible complaint I have is that I've noticed a consistent buzz in my recordings with this interface. This could likely be because my cheap monitoring speakers are to blame. However, this runs contrary to other reviews I've read. I personally did not notice a huge sound quality difference between this and my Macbook Pro's built in audio output. Both of these features make it ideal for a laptop-based musician or anyone who will be tossing it mercilessly about or dragging it from location to location. At the bottom of the the unit is an neat little stand that you can pull out and turn, allowing it to function either standing up or laying flat. ![]() On both sides of the front panel are "roll bars" (for lack of a better name) that protect the knobs from getting banged around and breaking off. I would say it outshines many pricier interfaces in this regard. Probably the most noteworthy aspect of this product is its construction. ![]() The unit has two XLR/TRS inputs and an output for monitors and one for headphones, plus a 48V switch for your microphones that require phantom power. I've seen others wondering if the b works with Snow Leopard, and I'm your answer (I'm running 10.6.8). This unit is very easy to use I just plugged it in and Logic recognized it instantly, no installation or driver download required. It is my first audio interface and has served me well. The Tapco b is a discontinued 2x2 USB audio interface made by Mackie in recent years. ![]()
